Outstanding journalist Soledad O’Brien will no longer be a host on CNN, but she’s staying with the network — sort of.
Soledad O’Brien is probably the best journalist CNN has; she asks real, hard-hitting questions, and challenges leaders regardless of their party. So obviously she’s being moved out from her anchor job. Why? And what ironic choice is taking her place? Cenk Uygur breaks it down.
O’Brien told the New York Times that she is returning to the role she had before she became the host of “Starting Point” in 2011: a roving documentary reporter. The twist this time is that she is forming her own production company, Starfish Media, and will not be tied exclusively to CNN; she will be able to shop programs to other networks and air them on the Web as well.”

The Young Turks Discusses the Mass Shootings in America
Aug 7, 2012
“…The horrific mass murder at a movie theater in Colorado on July 20 and another at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on August 5 are the latest in an epidemic of such gun violence over the last three decades. Since 1982, there have been at least 58 mass murders* carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii. We’ve mapped them below, including details on the shooters’ identities, the types of weapons they used, and the number of victims they injured and killed.
Of the 134 guns possessed by the killers, more than three quarters were obtained legally. The arsenal included dozens of assault weapons and high-powered handguns…”.* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down on The Young Turks.Read more here from Mark Follman, Gavin Aronsen, and Deanna Pan in Mother Jones15 3 / 2012

The Arizona Senate Judiciary Committee has recently voted in favor of legislation that will make it legal for an employer to ask women what they need contraception for and fire the employee if they don’t agree with the answer. Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss this insane legislation and try to figure out why any woman would vote for a Republican.

Republican Jobs Plan - Help Hedge Funds
The Republicans newly proposed jobs plan is based around tax breaks (including to hedge fund managers. More via Think Progress: “What’s really holding back small businesses is a lack of demand in the economy, and there’s no reason for businesses to hire, no matter how many tax breaks they receive, unless they have an expectation of more customers. As the chief economist for the conservative National Federation of Independent Business explained, “if you give a small business guy $20,000 he’ll say, ‘I could buy a new delivery truck but I have nobody to deliver to”…”.* Cenk Uygur and Michael Shure discuss on The Young Turks.

NBC Execs Privately Briefed On War With Iran By General McCaffrey
March 01, 2012 Via Salon.com: “Apparently, not only does NBC continue to present McCaffrey to its viewers as some sort of objective analyst, but NBC News executives use him as some kind of private consultant and briefer on the news. On January 12, 2012, McCaffrey presented a seminar to roughly 20 NBC executives and producers — including NBC News President Steve Capus — entitled “Iran, Nukes & Oil: The Gulf Confrontation.” We’ve obtained the Power Point presentation McCaffrey prepared and distributed for his presentation, and in it, he all but predicts war with Iran within the next 90 days: one that is likely to be started by them…”.* - The Young Turks
