The economic dangers of widening inequality are highlighted in a new report presented at the OECD Forum in Paris.
It said the gap between rich and poor is at its highest in decades in many countries, and efforts to tackle that will only succeed if they look beyond income and focus on better access to high-quality education,…

“It’s common knowledge that Florida cut back on early voting in 2011 to reduce the turnout of blacks and other groups likely to vote for Democrats. But it’s refreshing to see that former top Republicans in the state are now saying so out loud.
In an interview with The Palm Beach Post published on Sunday, the former chairman of the Florida Republican Party said voter suppression was the sole reason for the change to the election rules. Jim Greer, the party chairman in from 2006 to 2010, said he went to several meetings during which Republican officials discussed the damage that early voting — which brought an unprecedented number of black voters to the polls in 2008 — had done to the party.
"The Republican Party, the strategists, the consultants, they firmly believe that early voting is bad for Republican Party candidates," Mr. Greer said. "It’s done for one reason and one reason only."*

Fiscal Cliff: Mr. Obama demands that it include up to $1.6 trillion in tax increases for the wealthy
November 16, 2012
President Barack Obama appealed for cooperation and compromise from congressional leaders Friday, saying that surmounting the fiscal cliff at year’s end is “urgent business.”
"Gathered in the Roosevelt Room were the same cast of leaders who fought in 2011, then eventually agreed to nearly $1 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years but deadlocked on the roughly $4 trillion “grand bargain” both sides say the country needs. Mr. Obama demands that it include up to $1.6 trillion in tax increases for the wealthy, while Republicans favor fewer revenues but big cost-saving changes to the fast-growing entitlement programs, Medicare and Medicaid. The talks began on a friendly note: With reporters and cameras briefly allowed in the room, the president wished a happy birthday to House Speaker John A. Boehner, who turns 63 on Saturday." - NY Times Read more here.

"In the wake of a judge’s decision not to block Pennsylvania’s controversial voter ID law, Mike Turzai, the Republican legislator who made headlines in June when he said the law would help Mitt Romney win the state in November, repeated the falsehood that the state has a history of election fraud…As they fought to defend the law in court, state officials conceded that no one had ever been prosecuted for in-person voter ID fraud and that there was no evidence that it had ever occurred in the state. In-person election fraud, which the state’s ID law is supposed to prevent, is extremely rare: a study of in-person voter fraud in presidential elections going back to 2000 found just 10 cases of voter fraud during a period when more than 600 million votes were cast…".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.*Read more here from Gene Demby in The Huffington Post

A conservative Republican, tells Reddit in a AMA why he is supporting Obama in 2012, over Romney, he says: Read it all here Reddit AMA. (AMA= Ask Me Anything)
"I completely support Obamacare and the healthcare reform that comes along with it. There are parts I disagree with, but I think it is a great step in the right direction. I have watched many programs on television featuring Obama (shows in the military channel and discovery channel), and I think he is a great person in general, and is doing his best for this country. He’s a good president, and strives to make America better as a whole, rather than just focusing on one political party. He risked his presidency with the assault on Bin Laden, and he knew that beforehand. I’m not here to discuss the assault itself and the political can of worms that comes along with it, but am here to present Mr. Obama’s willingness to risk his presidency to do what he thought was best. This speaks volumes of his character. I fully support him in this next election, and would love to have dinner or a drink with him. He has my utmost respect.
Mittens, on the other hand, has no idea what he is doing, and is running for president simply because he can. He thrives off of the sense of power it gives him, and uses his vast amount of wealth as a financial and life cushion. This essentially allows him to attempt to do whatever the heck he wants to do, including running for president, and the views and thoughts that accompany that. He wants the prestige, recognition, and power that being president would bring to him, and yet he is too much of a slime ball to be anything but bad for this country. He is not president material, because I believe that his heart, mind, and wallet are too tainted and stuffed to serve the American people. He would not view the Presidency as a service, he would view it as power. Obama, on the other hand, is actively doing everything he can to serve the American people. Please remember, everything that I typed in this paragraph is my opinion and view, and I am not trying to present it as fact.”
